Got a call to "pre-register" for my extra radiography of my dense breasts. Turned out they wanted my credit card number. Do you have an NON-MEDICAL questions the lady asked helpfully. So I pay the $350 and today found out that is the clinic's charge. What the radiologist charges will be extra. And people wonder why we have such terrible healthcare in this country. I'm glad I can afford it. I'm glad we could afford my husband's $6,000 dental bill. But what do people do who can't? Suffer and die.

Exactly. When I read people from France to Sweden to Canada talking about how their healthcare works, I'm astounded that anyone in the US thinks this is preferable. I fear that what they really mean is "I've got mine, and if you, or him, getting something at all will take even 15% of mine, I don't want it, it's SOCIALISM." But really if you want to live in a happy place, it has to be happy for the maximum number, not just you and your bubble.
